Chaos Space Marines with Necron Allies @ 1850

Another distraction on my path to finishing up that Dark Eldar series, this is an idea I had for Chaos Space Marines when another friend was curious about potential uses for allies and trying to figure out a list for CAGE. For this army, I would definitely try a counts-as approach, making all the Necron stuff similar to the new Daemonforged units.

Primary Detachment

  • 170 Chaos Lord
    • Mark of Khorne
    • Axe of Blind Fury
    • Sigil of Corruption
    • Juggernaut of Khorne
  • 265 Chaos Space Marines
    • 15 CSM
    • 2 Plasma Guns
    • Meltabombs
    • Icon of Vengeance
  • 265 Chaos Space Marines
    • 15 CSM
    • 2 Plasma Guns
    • Meltabombs
    • Icon of Vengeance
  • 170 Heldrake
    • Baleflamer
  • 170 Heldrake
    • Blaeflamer
  • 140 Obliterators
    • 2 Obliterators

Fortification

  • 70 Aegis Defense Line
    • Comms Relay

Allied Detachment

  • 180 Overlord
    • Warscythe
    • Catacomb Command Barge
  • 165 Necron Warriors
    • Night Scythe
  • 165 Necron Warriors
    • Night Scythe
  • 90 Annihilation Barge
    • Gauss Cannon

We have a decent mix of shooting and close combat potential in this army and some room for tweaks if we really want it by dropping out teh Comms Relay and Meltabomb upgrades. One of the CSM units can drop their icon, grab a Mark of Nurgle, and be a little bit more durable behind that defense line since they would be T5 and capable of going to ground.

Two killy HQs and lots of vector striking/sweep attacks give some really nice tools during the movement phase, and we have a ton of stuff for simply erasing power armor (and worse) off the table. Our killy HQs can cause major trouble for terminators too.

Four fliers is right at the sweet spot for competition, and we have a solid mix of anti-transport and cover-ignoring anti-infantry. The Comms Relay, if kept in, lets us manage when to bring our fliers in a little better. usefulf or setting up dogfights in our favor or hitting the enemy where and when they are vulnerable.

As usual, comments and feedback are always welcome!

  1. This is very similar to something I have been experimenting with, though I was looking more toward mounted plague marines and cultists. I like the A Barge and the oblits being included because they add more targets to the mix and they are each deadly. I like the douche canoe for heavy vehicle and monstrous creature patrol. CVinton and I have discussed to the wee hours the same thing you have mentioned here: 4 flyers is the competitive sweet spot. I like that the scythes offer anti flyer/ anti tank while the heldrakes just smoke infantry of marine equivelent or less. I think this list has what it takes. I would live to see how it has faired since you wrote this.

Therefore, getting bored is not an option as long as you have an internet connection on your smartphone.
